The St. Jacques Heritage House main level needed to be insulated. We discovered several items inside the living room walls. The most informative were two newspapers from October 1942, during World War II. One was in English and the other was in French, an issue of La Survivance. The latter has been scanned and made available online as part of the University of Alberta Peel’s Prairie Provinces newspaper collection. Here is the link to that entire newspaper, allowing us to preserve the delicate state of the copy we found. The English newspaper, the Free Press Prairie Farmer is currently only searchable from 1893–1931 so we may have to rely on photographs for now.
